The highly anticipated Canelo Alvarez vs Dmitry Bivol light-heavyweight showdown will take place on May 7. Meanwhile, Alvarez’s promoter Eddie Hearn shared a rather intriguing take on the champ’s strategy for the bout.

Hearn was in an interview with FightHype after the weigh-ins for the bout. In conversation, the reporter asked him about his thoughts on Alvarez‘s physical condition.

In response, Hearn mentioned that he felt that Alvarez looked small. He said, “I think he looks small. I mean I saw him weigh in earlier on in the commission weigh-in. He looked tiny in comparison to Dmitry Bivol. “

Moreover, Hearn also mentioned that he feels that, Alvarez wishes to handicap himself, so as to challenge himself in the fight against Bivol. He said, “This is what he wants. He wants to handicap himself, to be tested.”

Hearn also added that Bivol would find it hard to beat Alvarez in regular circumstances. Saying, “He can’t put Canelo in a normal fight, in his normal weight, because he is too good. So, he has to step up and take these challenges.”

But, he was also quick to add that Bivol was in perfect physical condition. And, that the battle between the titans will truly be a memorable one.

The Canelo Alvarez vs Dmitry Bivol showdown

According to Alvarez’s trainer and manager, Eddy Reynoso, he was initially supposed to challenge Congolese boxer Ilunga Makabu for his WBC cruiserweight title. However, this fight failed to materialize as Makabu had to defend his title against Thabiso Mchunu.

It was then announced on February 25, 2022, that Alvarez had signed a multi-fight deal with Matchroom Boxing.

The first saw Alvarez’s return to the light heavyweight division to face the champion, Bivol. Moreover, the bout which will take place in the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, will see Alvarez fighting Bivol for the WBA (Super) light heavyweight title.
