In 2017, Manny Pacquiao was defeated by Jeff Horn via a unanimous decision in the bout billed as, “Battle of Brisbane.” Pacquiao at the time was the WBO welterweight champion and Horn was the contender. The bout was shrouded in controversy— Pacquiao alleged that the Horn was head-butting him which was left unnoticed. And many boxing fans believed at that time, that the decision should have gone in favor of Manny Pacquiao.

Meanwhile, some in the boxing fraternity felt that the commentators was biased toward the Filipino legend.

However, both combatants are now retired. Horn last fought in 2020 against Tim Tszyu in the super-welterweight division and Pacquiao last fought in 2021. Meanwhile, in a resurfaced clip, Terence Crawford weighed in on the controversies surrounding the matchup and his opinion on the decision.

Terence Crawford weighs in on Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn

Crawford, at the time, was in talks to face Pacquiao for a fight. A bout with a legendary boxer like Pacquiao is not just lucrative for him in terms of money but also for his reputation. For his own interest, Crawford was rooting for Pacquiao to win. And while watching the fight live, he was under the impression that Horn was being outclassed. However, after re-watching it again, his opinion was altered and blamed the commentators for giving a false impression about the fight.

In an episode of the Joe Rogan podcast, he stated, “When I first watched it. You know listening to the commentary, I was like man Pacquiao whopping, you know what I mean. Why they cheating? You know I wanted to fight Pacquiao cause I was next in line. So of course I was rooting for the champion cause that’s the bigger fight.”

He added, “But after watching the fight, they not saying nothing about All the shots Jeff Horan was hitting Pacquiao with and he was brutally bullying him.” In addition, Crawford also felt that the controversy surrounding the head butts is justifiable because “It’s a fight.”
