Former British boxer, Tony Bellew believes that Deontay Wilder will bounce back from his defeat against Tyson Fury.

Wilder and Fury went toe-to-toe for the first time in December 2018. Although many people thought Fury had won the fight, the bout ended in a controversial draw. The anticlimactic finish fueled their second bout which took place in February of this year.

Fury made dramatic changes to his gameplan in the second fight and dominated Wilder for seven straight rounds. As a result, the referee stopped the match after the American’s cornerman threw in the towel.

Wilder did not waste any time to activate his rematch clause. The duo will collide for the third time later this year. Originally, the date was set in July. But the ongoing Coronavirus crisis pushed it back to October. This might be a silver lining for Wilder, as he got more time to prepare for the bout.

“He deserved an awful lot of credit for the last fight [against Fury] because he was taking a one-sided pounding and beating, and he showed the heart of a lion,” Bellew said during an appearance on ‘Colin Murray’s 52 podcast. “He will be back.”

How was Fury able to neutralize Wilder? Well, Fury discovered a vulnerability in Wilder’s skillset in their first fight; the American does not perform well on the back foot. Accordingly, the ‘Gypsy King’ adjusted his gameplan in the second fight.

While many believe that Wilder may have been exposed in the second fight, Bellew claims that not many people can pull off Fury’s strategy.

“Not anybody can carry out Tyson Fury’s game plan – so don’t think this guy will come back and everyone can do that to him. That’s not going to happen.

“Very very few will be able to dictate the pace and dictate the range to Deontay Wilder like Tyson Fury did. Tyson Fury is a master boxer.” Bellew said.
