The knockout artist spoke to TMZ Sports on YouTube and gave his take on Alvarez’s decisions. He explained why he thinks Alvarez is ducking and said, “Yea exactly, and the evidence for that is, when I had the belt, he went around everybody, he offered everybody a fight. I had never got, never. They never contacted me, they never said nothing.”

Benavidez did not stop there and spoke about the current situation. He pointed out that Canelo still doesn’t mention his name. Moreover, he claimed it is a fight that fans want to see, and thus, the Mexican has to make it happen.

David Benavidez questions Canelo Alvarez’s choice of opponents

Benavidez has always been outspoken, and the unbeaten American did not stop at just accusing Alvarez of ducking. Instead, Benavidez continued to question the Mexican’s choice of opponents too.

“The type of people he’s fought, you know, they just look like they’re scared of him and they just respect him too much. But me, I feel like I’m a young, hungry lion man,” said Benavidez. This showed how desperate the former champion is for that fight.

This is not even the first time Benavidez has accused Alvarez of ducking. He recently called him out for not including his name in any interviews since his victories. However, given Alvarez’s plan to become undisputed, we may not see the Benavidez-Alvarez match-up anytime soon.

If Benavidez can make a fight against Caleb Plant before the end of the year, and beat Plant to get his hands on the IBF belt, then it will ensure him a shot at Alvarez. However, at the moment, that doesn’t look likely.
