What happens when a boxer with the highest knockout-to-win ratio in middleweight history meets the greatest defensive boxer in ‘sweet science’ history? Such is the fantasy matchup that was presented by an X account. “Fantasy Fight: Prime Floyd Mayweather vs Prime GGG at 160. Floyd has a serious weight disadvantage. Can Floyd evade the power and win by decision?” Boxing Kingdom posted the question on X.

The Kazakhstani former professional boxer is a pressure fighter, known for his power punches, movements inside the ring, and masterful jab. Additionally, Golovkin has an outstanding 88.1% KO ratio. Therefore, if he lands one power punch flush on the face of his opponent, it could be lights out.  On the other hand, Mayweather is an evasive counterpuncher, who has mastered the Philly shell, a defensive stance that involves positioning yourself sideways with your lead shoulder raised and tucked in toward your chin. The undefeated boxer has never been knocked down by an opponent’s punch.

Now the scenario that has been presented to us is tricky. Prime GGG has been allowed to stay in his natural weight class — the middleweight. Meanwhile, Floyd Mayweather, a natural welterweight, has to move up to middleweight. But, that won’t matter much as Floyd has never been known as a power puncher. Now can ‘TBE’ be evasive, and take GGG to the distance, all the while peppering him with shots using his supreme boxing prowess? Or can GGG apply the pressure and land one solid punch, that would knock Mayweather out cold?

The fans had a great time in the comment section debating the consequences of the battle between the two boxing legends. Who takes the cake? Is it the five-division undefeated champion Floyd Mayweather or the two-time former unified middleweight champion GGG?

Aggressive boxer vs counterpuncher? Who wins?

One fan claimed it would be a Mayweather masterclass, with his style proving to be dangerous for GGG, stating, “He would lose 10-2 😂 yall don’t be watching boxing fr cuz Floyd style would give GGG problems. This is laughable Floyd would make him look silly

Meanwhile, another fan stated that Golovkin would “destroy” Mayweather at 160, but at lower weight classes the 50-boxer still has a chance. They remarked, “GGG at 160 would destroy Floyd. Maybe lower category Floyd would put up a fight. However, GGG at that weight is a monster.”

Meanwhile, one fan feels that this contest will have a clear winner — GGG. They claimed that the Kazakhstani boxer’s power would be too much for Floyd to handle in the latter rounds even if ‘TBE’ outboxes him in the first few rounds, therefore, commenting, “All of you make me laugh saying Floyd out boxes him 😂 that may be the case for the first few rounds then GGG hurts him bad, Mayweather starts running and GGG has a great ring cut off, Floyd is taking too many hits and the ref stops the fight.”

Another fan seemed to be diplomatic in his answer. They highlighted that it could be curtains for Mayweather if GGG lands repeatedly, but Mayweather has a chance to win by decision if he “avoids getting hit by GGG for 12 rounds”, commenting, “The real question is, would Floyd avoid getting hit by GGG for 12 rounds….there is no question about Floyd being faster, and more elusive than GGG, which would give him the advantage. But if GGG lands repeatedly, it would be a stoppage for GGG, otherwise Floyd wins by decision”
