Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez is not uncomfortable with the idea of moving around in weight to enhance his boxing legacy. After conquering 160 and 168, he will be making his return to the light heavyweight division with a fight against Dmitry Bivol. After this, he could even have an intriguing bout at cruiserweight or heavyweight against Oleksandr Usyk.

Oleksandr Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas revealed that the heavyweight champ would come down to cruiserweight to fight Alvarez.

In a tweet shared by Michael Benson, Klimas declared that Usyk would cut down to 200 lbs to be in the cruiserweight division to face Alvarez. However, Canelo has other ideas if he is to sign a contract to box ‘The Cat’.

The formidable Ukrainian had moved up to heavyweight in 2020 to box Derek Chisora. A year later, he bulked up to 221 lbs to face Anthony Joshua. ‘The Cat’ defeated ‘AJ’ at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and won the unified titles for the division.

Eddie Hearn’s thoughts on Canelo Alvarez vs Oleksandr Usyk

A potential Alvarez vs Usyk showdown has been in talks for a while. Recently, Hearn made the revelation about Alvarez’s desire to fight for the heavyweight titles.

Hearn and Australian boxer Skye Nicolson were in an interview with JOE UK. The duo was talking as a part of the promotions for the then-upcoming Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano bout. Hearn was also promoting the Alvarez vs Bivol fight.

In conversation, the Matchroom supremo spoke about Alvarez’s mindset. He also added that Canelo wants to foray into the heavyweight division, saying, “He genuinely believes he can beat Oleksandr Usyk for the world heavyweight title. He said to me, ‘If you can make that fight at 1lb above cruiserweight (200lbs), I will beat him.'”

Benson, in turn, took to social media to share Hearn’s statement as a tweet.

This tweet caught the eye of Oleksandr Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas. He responded to Benson’s tweet, saying, “Be our guest, Usyk will make Cruiserweight for this one.”

Moreover, he also added that, currently, Alvarez should focus on his upcoming bout with Bivol.
