For any boxer fighting in one’s own country, amongst their people, is a different and emotional experience. To walk toward the ring with your name being chanted by thousands of people of your country who are proud of their fellow citizen who has done so much for the country’s representation. It is a dream every boxer has when they step into the ring for the very first time. Canelo Alvarez will walk into the ring this May. Nothing is new, but the location of Alvarez’s next fight has sent the fans into a frenzy of joy and excitement. An official confirmation regarding the Mexican’s next opponent is yet to be given.
First time in a long time…
In a recent Tweet, Michael Benson from talkSPORT confirmed that Alvarez will return to his home country for his undisputed title defense. Alvarez will be fighting in May in Jalisco, Mexico. The fight will be a part of the 200th celebration of the state of Jalisco.

Canelo Alvarez has now confirmed that his next fight will be a homecoming defence of his undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF & WBO super-middleweight world titles in Jalisco, Mexico. It’s previously been reported that he will face John Ryder on May 6th.

The last time Mexico had the chance to witness Alvarez inside the ring was in 2011 when he fought Ryan Rhodes in a bout held at Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, the birthplace of one the undisputed champ. Canelo Alvarez last fought in 2022, winning his trilogy bout against Gennady Golovkin unanimously.
According to ESPN, John Ryder is the potential next opponent for Canelo’s undisputed title defense in May. However, no deal is finalized yet. On numerous occasions, Eddie Hearn, Alvarez’s promoter, has talked about a fight between Alvarez and Ryder. ‘The Gorilla’ became the interim WBO super middleweight champion after beating Zach Parker. After his win over Parker, the Brit became the WBO mandatory challenge for Alvarez, and he will have to face the Mexican in a title fight.
