After Canelo Alvarez demanded $150 – $200 million to fight David Benavidez, the latter advised Saul to “buy” a pair of “n*ts.” On the other hand, ahead of the Jaime Munguia fight, analyst Stephen A. Smith claimed Canelo was trying to avoid Benavidez. Likewise, he condemned Alvarez’s statements where the Mexican boxer argued Benavidez “brings nothing to the table“.

Meanwhile, Alvarez’s former opponent Erislandy Lara highlighted the advantages Benavidez had over Alvarez as a boxer. In doing so, Lara argued that Canelo would lose against the ‘Red Flag’. However, Oscar Valdez, who has trained with Canelo, came to the latter’s defense. In a brief clip, Valdez explained why Canelo would not fight Benavidez per people’s request.

Having trained with Canelo Alvarez, Oscar Valdez understands the dedicated boxer Saul is. Likewise, after the loss to Dmitry Bivol in 2022, Valdez told the media that he never saw Alvarez “do bad in camps.” According to Valdez, Canelo would return to the gym only a week after a fight. As a result, Valdez feels Canelo is not scared of anyone in the sport. “He does not care. He will fight anybody,” said Valdez.

He’s not afraid of fighting anybody. But then, you got other people who will bring up their statement on why he will be afraid of fighting this guy or that guy,” said Valdez.  “And then, once he beats them, there’s always going to be that one other fighter,” he added.

As per Valdez, people are hardly satisfied irrespective of what a fighter has achieved in their career. Therefore, Valdez said, “They’re always bringing in a new guy who’d say, ‘Now, you’re ducking him.’ I understand his side. Then I also understand the fanatic side.” “I truly respect everybody else’s opinion the same way I respect Canelo’s opinion,” he concluded.

So, according to Valdez, Canelo does not want to fight Benavidez because even if he beats the ‘Red Flag’, the boxing world will find a new figure they want Canelo to fight. On the other hand, Benavidez’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz agreed to pay $150 million to Alvarez. Speaking to FightHype, Lewkowicz even informed that Benavidez vs. Canelo could take place in November this year. “I believe that he deserves the 150. November is a good time to do that fight,” Lewkowicz said.
