How Did Canelo Alvarez Get the Bulky Physique of 175 Lbs?

Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez has been on a serious gain train as he returns to the light heavyweight division. The highly anticipated leviathan showdown where he faces the undefeated Dmitry Bivol, has kept fans on the edges of their seats.

Even, Alvarez’s upgraded physique for the light heavyweight division has kept conversations going.

Alvarez is bulking up to 175 lbs for his fight against Bivol. In fact, the champ did not shy away from showcasing his physique on social media.

Fans were awestruck to see the transformation he had undergone. The usually chiseled Alvarez has now packed on some mass to get a bulky warrior like physique.

In an interview with TMZ, Alvarez also expressed his desire to be the undisputed champion at 175. Talking about Bivol, he said, “He’s a really good boxer. He’s a solid champion at 175. It’s a dangerous fight. I like it, I love that kind of challenge. I really like it.”

Alvarez also added, “I like the idea to be undisputed at 175. That’s what I like, but you never know.”

With his consistent performances across weight classes, it is safe to assume that Alvarez does have a pretty even chance.

What helped Canelo Alvarez move up four divisions ?

Alvarez has won multiple championships across four weight classes. The astonishing adaptability of the champ across the weight classes has both surprised and excited fans.

Alvarez was a welterweight when he started his professional career at the age of 15 in 2005. The journey that Alvarez has had since, is truly commendable.

Alvarez fought in the Welterweight division until 2010, when he shifted to the light middleweight division. He then bulked up once again to cross over to the middleweight division to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Gennady Golovkin.

However, one of his most dramatic transformations was in 2019. Alvarez crossed over to light heavyweight to face Sergey Kovalev. He went on a rigorous weight training routine to bulk up for the bout.

In fact, Alvarez jumped two weight classes and went from 160 lbs to 175 lbs in a mere six months.

He later cut down t0 168 lbs to fight at lower middleweight. Alvarez also scored impressive victories against Caleb Plant and Billy Joe Saunders, among others at this weight class.

Alvarez stayed at this weight until bulking up to face Bivol.

How did Alvarez manage to get his bulky physique at 175 lbs?

Alvarez is training with his longtime trainer, Eddy Reynoso, so as to get to a brawny 175 lbs.

Recently released montages from the training camp show that the champ followed a diverse workout routine. He also got a strength and conditioning trainer to help him bulk up for the light heavyweight division.

How has Canelo changed his diet and training plans for 175lbs?

Alvarez has made pretty major changes in his diet and training to build the intimidating 175 lbs physique.

He has been incorporating a lot more strength and conditioning sessions into his routine. Moreover, training montages show Alvarez undertaking extra rigorous weight trainer sessions with Bolivian coach Munir Somoya.

Somoya also gave an insight into the work that Alvarez has been putting in. He said, “Preparation is discipline and perseverance. Three hours a day of preparation and two and a half months before each fight, before we made it longer.”

Another major change that Alvarez made was shifting to a vegan diet. Talking about his diet, he said, “I feel very good, my body is adapting very well. My stomach feels very good.”

He also mentioned that he would recommend the vegan diet.

The intense regime and diet has made the champ an imposing figure, and truly a force to reckon with.
