The highly anticipated Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr fight ended in an unofficial draw. Both fighters put on a respectable show in their comeback fights. The rules stated that there would be no official scoring; however, the WBC named a panel of three former champions who were scoring the fight. At the end of the 8, two-minute rounds, it went to the judges’ scorecards.

Speaking to legendary sportscaster and Hall of Famer, Jim Gray, after the fight, both fighters gave their views on the fight being a draw. ‘Iron Mike’ said, “I’m good with a draw.” He explained why and said, “Because I entertained the crowd. The crowd was happy with that”.

‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ was happy as long as his audience was happy.

Jones Jr was a little more unhappy with the draw. He was on the back foot throughout the fight and was getting caught on multiple occasions. Despite this, he said, “Hell no, I ain’t ever settle for a draw.”

He added, “But the dude is so strong, man… When he hits you, if it’s his head, punches, his body shots, don’t matter. Everything hurts. So for me, I thought I did enough boxing from the outside… But you know, I’m cool with a draw”.

The two fighters said that they are willing to run it back. Tyson said, “We got to do this again”. Jones responded with, “I got to go talk to my family, see how they feel about it… What they thought, if they enjoyed what they saw, and they want to do it again, we’ll come back and do it again”.

In all fairness to both these legends, they did put on a much better fight than critics expected. They proved to everyone that they were capable of putting on a show and entertaining the fans. They also got a little help from Snoop Dogg, who was a constant source of entertainment from the commentary box.
