Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya has become one of the few boxers in history to have done everything in regard to the sport. Born in East Los Angeles to a Mexican family, he quickly emerged as a young boxing prodigy. Moreover, his exceptional skill inside the ring earned him numerous world titles across multiple weight classes and also an Olympic medal. This only further solidified his place as one of the all-time greats in the sport.

However, the former champion’s importance is not just related to his boxing career. Back in 2002, De La Hoya founded Golden Boy Promotions transitioning into the promotion business. The project was incredibly successful as Golden Boy has become one of the top boxing promotions in the world. Now, as anticipation builds, an HBO documentary titled “The Golden Boy” is set to give an intimate glimpse into the life of this boxing legend.

The trailer for the show gave us a glimpse into the tumultuous life of the former champion. In the trailer, we also see how just at the age of 24, De La Hoya was a superstar with millions of dollars in his bank account. Moreover, the series also dives deep into how money and fame affected the young boxer at the time. “I am 24, making 20 million dollars a fight,” he said in a snippet from the trailer.

In the lead-up to the release date, De La Hoya also appeared at the show’s screening in Los Angeles. The screening was also visited by the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Bob Arum, Eric Gomez, and other prominent personalities. As fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to delve into the life of a boxing legend, they were quick to react to this premiere screening event.

The fans’ excitement reached new heights after De La Hoya came out with other legends during his premier. Moreover, the Golden Boy page posted a picture of all the people who attended the show.

Following this, fans praised De La Hoya’s timeless charisma and his contribution to the sport, while others speculated about the stories and insights that the docuseries might unveil.

A user took shots at De La Hoya pointing out that Matchroom CEO Eddie Hearn was missing. This was a jibe at ‘Golden Boy’s’ current feud with the British promoter.No Eddie?” he wrote.

Another user claimed that nothing was impossible if one has a strong mindset. “Everything is possible,” he wrote.

However, a user wondered where the civil war documentary that De La Hoya promised three years ago was. “THREE YEARS SINCE ANNOUNCING THE CIVIL WAR DOC WHEN IS THAT COMING,” he wrote.

A user hilariously asked for a documentary on Eric Gomez, who despite not being a boxer had a ‘finer wife’ than others. “What about a documentary on why non boxer Eric Gomez has finer wife than any professional boxer of this era,” he wrote.

Lastly, a user named Noel Huerta also thought Gomez was the one winning in life. “Erick Gomez winning,” he wrote.
