In his highly anticipated return to the ring, Rolly Romero is set to face Ismael Barroso in a WBA (super) lightweight title bout on Saturday night. After a turbulent few months, Romero is ready to prove himself and capture the vacant title. However, he does have some future opponents ready after this bout takes place. Romero was originally set to face Alberto Puello, but after Puello tested positive for a banned substance, Barroso stepped in as a replacement.

If Romero is successful against Barroso he could set himself up for a potential rematch with Gervonta Davis. Notably, Davis knocked out Romero in the sixth round of their lightweight fight last May, and Romero has been calling for a rematch ever since. However, ‘Rolly’ also has his eyes set on a fight with Ryan Garcia.

Rolly Romero wants to face Ryan Garcia after his title fight

In a recent interview with FightHype, the 14-1 boxer was asked about potential opponents in the 140-pound division. He then revealed that he was asking for this fight for a long time and was interested in facing the 24-year-old.

If Oscar is pushing for it, I mean, I’m pretty sure I can get my team pushing for it. I asked for the fight years ago, and if I could get it now, that’ll be dope,” he said.

Both Garcia and Romero are coming off losses to the same man in Davis. However, this fight could prove to be an opportunity for both of them to showcase their skills in a new division. In addition, this fight could even result in the winner facing  ‘Tank’ in the future. However, all eyes will be on Romero as he looks to capture his first world title.
