Despite residing under the Top Rank banner, Teofimo Lopez has secured an independent purse bid of $6.02 million from Triller for his upcoming title defense against George Kambosos Jr. This bid has snubbed Top Rank’s official broadcaster, ESPN, from telecasting the fight.

However, Bob Arum did everything to secure the fight under a low-price. As per official reports, he even tried to block Eddie Hearn from bidding in a value.

But Triller’s boxing chief Petr Kahn had different plans on his mind. Competing against Top Rank and DAZN, Triller put the highest numbers on the plate and ultimately secured the rights of telecasting the fight. Meanwhile, Kahn has opened up on the whole scenario and revealed why exactly they took Teofimo Lopez’s fight under their belt. While it clearly brought some more eyes to the fight community in Triller, Kahn actually wanted to stop Top Rank from bullying the other promoters.

“Top Rank in essence was attempting to bully DAZN into not bidding, which means Top Rank would have been able to come in and possibly steal that bid for a low number. And I just really was not going to let that happen,” said the Triller administrator.

He continued, “So what I did was, when I realized we weren’t getting an offer, and I realized purse big was being called, and it was called, I had to do something, and I basically threw a hail mary, and I flew out to California. I met with Ryan Kavanaugh, I explained him the situation.”

Lopez and his team have also sparked heat over the Top Rank and have seemingly threatened to exit if they aren’t paid the right amount. Hence, the upcoming deal with Triller can be the first step of their move.

Lopez is now a superstar in the sport and can rightfully demand the bigger numbers. Unless Top Rank and he come under terms, we can expect the unified 135 lbs champion to fight out of the banner. That said, if it continues, Lopez doesn’t seem to hesitate to craft his own path.
