“I Bullied My Way to the World Title Fight” – Anthony Yarde
Former WBO light-heavyweight title contender Anthony Yarde talked about his journey to the top in the world of boxing in an interview ahead of his fight with Dec Spelman tomorrow.
He said, “It’s about bullying your way to that level, and that’s what I feel like I’ve done to this stage. I’ve bullied my way to the world title fight with Kovalev. I tried to bully him as well, but again, a lot of it worked against me. But it showed what I have in here, still a heart of iron. But yeah, the journey continues.”
On the time when he was about to spar Chris Eubank Jr. he said “This is when I was at amateur, this was when I was nine fights into my amateur career. It was him [Eubank Jr.] and his dad and I remember his dad coming up to me and he was like ‘Son, what are you doing? You have to warm-up, my son is going to try and kill you!’ And I looked at him and said ‘I’m okay, I’m okay’.”

Going into this bout against a tough opponent like Spelman, Yarde would look to make a statement. Winning this bout will most probably put him in the title contention again. Spelman, however, would look to break Yarde’s hopes of winning a title and add the latter’s momentum to his own.
Being a heavy-puncher, Yarde has won almost all his fights by early knockout. Having not gone beyond the seventh round before in his pro-career, he struggled with his endurance in the later rounds during fight with Kovalev. Therefore, it’ll be interesting to see how Yarde has worked on his cardio this time in case the fight goes into the later rounds in this ten-round match.
