There is no love lost between the current IBF lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez and the WBA, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titleholder, Vasiliy Lomachenko.

The former recently appeared in an interview with SportsCenter to talk about his upcoming bout with Lomachenko on October 17. In the interview, Lopez did not have a lot of nice things to say about his rival.

On being asked about his thoughts on Lomachenko, he said, “Him and I both are going for the glory, we’re trying to make a legacy, trying to build our legacy, and we hang up the gloves, we want to be satisfied that we left our footprints in this world.”

“That’s all I can take my hat off to him about, but when it comes to us being in the ring, I don’t like him, he don’t like me, and I don’t respect him. I’m sorry, I don’t respect him. That’s just what it comes to. I’m a hungry fighter, he’s a hungry fighter as well, and it’s going to be a great fight. But I’m younger, I’m smarter, and we’re going to see on Oct. 17.”

Vasiliy Lomachenko vs Teofimo Lopez: What to expect?

Unlike Lopez, Lomachenko relies on his exceptional footwork, speed, and relentless pressure to outclass his opponents inside the ring. With his advanced technique and ability to stay one step ahead of his opponents, “Hi-Tech” certainly lives up to his moniker. Lomachenko has made world-class champions look like amateurs.

Going into this bout, both fighters will have completely different approaches. Lopez will look to catch Lomachenko early in the fight with one of his power shots. The latter will look to apply his usual pressure and pick his opponent apart going into the later rounds.
