‘I Have Other Plans’ – Canelo Alvarez Dismisses Demetrius Andrade as Future Opponent

P4P king Canelo Alvarez was touted to face WBO middleweight champion, Demetrius Andrade, for a brief period. However, Alvarez moved up to the super middleweight unit and is already a champion over there.
Meanwhile, Demetrius Andrade had accused Alvarez of ducking him and called him out frequently. While it clearly seemed to be an alluring matchup, Canelo Alvarez didn’t seem interested in the fight. He recently connected with Brian Custer to talk about several things, including a showdown against ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade.

“Oh my goodness, I say this a lot of times but he fight nobody yet, no. You just see the record, he is fighting with nobody,” said Alvarez.
He added, “I have other plans.”
WBC and WBA super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez expressed a desire to unify all the titles at 168 lbs. He will fight Billy Joe Saunders for the WBO strap on May 8, and is also looking for a fight against IBF title-holder Caleb Plant ahead.

Nevertheless, Alvarez had also hinted at moving to the middleweight division somewhere down the line. So, Andrade vs Alvarez is still a possibility. But the WBO middleweight champion may have to face bigger names, before aiming shots at the P4P king.

If the mega-clash needs to happen, either champion will have to jump a division. They will also have their respective belts to defend, and that can play a pivotal role in shaping the fight. The middleweight division is blooming with elite champions in Ryota Murata, Jermall Charlo, and Gennady Golovkin.
Hence, ‘Boo Boo’ will have several big fights at 160 lbs and can unify the belts. All these factors can garner Canelo Alvarez’s attention. Already a four-division champion, Alvarez has grabbed two belts at 168 lbs and will fight for the third on his week. Thus, he can predictably move down to 160 lbs after capturing the entire super middleweight division.
