The difference between a good fighter and an excellent one is – that the latter learns from their mistakes. Ryan Garcia recently demonstrated the same idea while appearing in a YouTube video from DAZN Boxing. The Victorville native is about to enter the ring for the first time since tasting defeat at the hands of Gervonta Davis, and he claims to have learned something from the fight.

While appearing in a promotional video from DAZN Boxing, ahead of his fight against Oscar Duarte, ‘King Ry’ surprisingly thanked rival ‘Tank’ Davis for teaching him a boxing lesson. The two met in the ring back in April of this year. Davis won the fight by landing a devastating body shot on Garcia. Since then, the 25-year-old Garcia is vying for a rematch. So, the question remains – what did Garcia learn from Davis?

In the video, Ryan was playing a game where he engaged in several rounds of picking one or the other option. So, in one of those rounds, the choices were a ‘headshot’ or a ‘body shot.’ While it’s widely known that a clean headshot can send the opponent into the shadow realm, Ryan did not opt for that. Rater, learning from his fight against Davis, Rayn picked ‘body shot,’ claiming he knows a bit about it after fighting Davis.

“Body shots. I know a little too much about that now. It actually made my voice deeper. Getting hit with that body shot kind of lowered my diaphragm. But…it’s all good, thanks, Tank,” Garcia said in a playful tone. In this instance, Garcia might have accepted Davis’ superiority. But when it comes to selling fights, Garcia claims ‘Tank’ needs him.

‘King Ry’ claims Gervonta Davis can’t sell PPVs

When Ryan and Davis last met in the ring in April, the event turned out to be a massive success. Both parties walked away with life-changing amounts of money. Garcia alone made approximately $30 million, as revealed by his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya. However, while appearing in an interview with Boxing Scene, Ryan claimed ‘Tank’ can’t sell that much alone.

“He’s going to have to come to me. Do you know why? He can’t sell PPVs,” said Garcia. He went on to claim that Davis can’t maintain his stardom by selling 150,000 PPVs. So he would need him sooner or later. Ryan also added that he can make big fights alone, while Davis alone can’t manage that. “I can make way bigger fights than he can make by himself,” Garcia said.

One take at a time

The first time boxing captured my attention, it was because of a line I heard in the film 'Rocky Balboa', a film surrounding boxing. The line went like this, "But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward.
