Canelo Alvarez is currently one of the finest pugilists in the game, which is evident from his record over the years. Currently, Alvarez is set to defend his titles against Gennady Golovkin on September 17, 2022, for the third time. Also recently, he rubbished a claim that said he was focusing more on golf than on boxing, which was spurned after his loss to Dmitry Bivol.

Alvarez was talking to Marcos Villegas of Fight Hub TV. Notably, the interview took place after his first stare down with Golovkin. Previously, boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya had mentioned that Alvarez lost against Dmitry Bivol because of excessively concentrating on golf.

In conversation, Villegas asked him if he gets affected when people claim he golfs too much and that he is not dedicated.

Alvarez responded by mentioning that his previous loss was not due to golf. He said, “No, no, no, I lost because I lost. Not for golf, not for nothing. I golf in like three years and I go win the Spirit champion. That’s not a reason. It’s another reason right there.”

However, he added he does not wish to make excuses for his loss.

Post Alvarez’s victory in 2018, the trilogy showdown between the duo was delayed because of Covid-19. However, in May 2022, Matchroom Boxing CEO Eddie Hearn announced the duo had come to an agreement for a bout on 17 September. Alvarez will come fresh off his light heavyweight loss against Bivol. Meanwhile, Golovkin last had a sensational victory against Ryota Murata.

Alvarez will defend his WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles. The two haven’t disappointed fans earlier and are sure to provide them with a scintillating display yet again.
