“I Lost Today and He Won… No Excuses” – Canelo Alvarez on His Upset Loss Against Dmitry Bivol

The boxing fraternity witnessed the biggest upset of 2022 to date. The fans expected Canelo Alvarez to claim a new title to his name by defeating Dmitry Bivol. Unfortunately, the tables turned upside down when Bivol won the match. 

After the fight, Alvarez shed some light on his defeat, which showed his player spirit. He didn’t mend any excuses and took the defeat positively.

According to Micheal Benson, the renowned Editor for talkSPORT, Alvarez said, “I lost today and he won… No excuses. That’s what happens in boxing, you win and lose… He’s a great fighter.”

Alvarez lost the fight with a decision with a scorecard of 113-115 in the favor of the Russian boxer, Dmitry Bivol.

When did Canelo Alvarez go through a similar situation?

This was not the first time when Canelo Alvarez lost his fight. Back in 2013, the Mexican superstar lost his first bout against the undisputed legend, Floyd Mayweather.

Alvarez was a young, energetic boxer then, with a good amount of experience. Whereas Mayweather was the reigning champion.

Mayweather made it look easy when he fought Alvarez, as he showed some good skills while fighting him. After his first defeat, Alvarez never looked back and went on winning his fights until his latest defeat against Dmitry Bivol.

How did Canelo Alvarez’s career take a turn after his first defeat against Floyd Mayweather?

After his defeat in 2013, Canelo Alvarez went on to defeat prominent fighters in his career. Significantly, he defeated the current middleweight champion, Gennady Golovkin, when they faced each other for the second time in the ring.

Later on, Alvarez won several titles to his name and became the super middleweight champion of the world after knocking out Caleb Plant in 2021. 

However, his recent loss against Bivol was a big upset. But his fans will hope to see him back in action and win fights as he used to do.
