Dillian Whyte is set to put his interim strap and a chance to contend for the WBC Heavyweight title at stake, when he squares up against Alexander Povetkin on August 22.

The WBC has vowed to line up the winner of Whyte vs Povetkin opposite the winner of Fury vs Wilder 3. Thus, Whyte needs to earn his victory against Povetkin to secure his heavyweight title shot.

Despite having a tough contender in Povetkin, Whyte has appeared confident about notching the victory throughout the buildup. That said, Eddie Hearn also believes that ‘The Body Snatcher’ would knockout Povetkin to retain his Interim belt.

Eddie Hearn states how Dillian Whyte is going to knock out Alexander Povetkin

The Matchroom boxing promoter recently came Live on Instagram to address several issues going around the sport.

After a brief halt lasting a few months, boxing is back on track with an already successful event like Harper vs Jonas 2. August 22nd is set to witness another one in Whyte vs Povetkin.

However, Hearn appeared assertive about Whyte’s victory. When asked to predict the outcome of the matchup, Hearn replied, “I think Dillian Whyte will knock him out between 8 & 12 round.”

Although it is a massive statement to make, Hearn said it quite casually, intensifying the heavyweight clash with another reason.

After August 22, the WBC Heavyweight fight, between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, is expected to take place shortly. As per reports, Fury vs Wilder 3 can happen in December. However, the dates are yet to be cemented.

Despite Hearn’s claims,  Povetkin is a real threat to Whyte. Being the underdog, he stands the chance of shocking the world by pulling off a major upset. Not only that, but the victory would also entitle Povetkin to challenge Fury for the title next.

Thus, ‘The White Lion; might not be as easy as Hearn or Whyte thinks him to be.

Dillian Whyte, on the other side, is one of the deadliest KO specialists in the modern era. The odds are seemingly in Whyte’s favor considering how he has lost only one fight throughout his professional career.

Since an Interim title and an opportunity of fighting for the WBC gold is at stake, both the men are expected to put forth a nail-biting performance. While Hearn is confident about Whyte walking off with the win, anything can happen inside the squared circle during the main-event on August 22.
