In a resurfaced clip, Mayweather Jr revealed the first lesson his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr, taught him on his first day at the gym. Mayweather Jr’s father has been responsible for training the champ throughout his career. And it is safe to say that Mayweather senior played a pivotal role in his son’s overall success.

The resurfaced clip is from Floyd Mayweather Jr’s guest appearance at the Pivot podcast, There is no doubt that Mayweather Jr was one of a kind professional boxer who knew how to adapt according to the opponent he was facing. But, it seems like that trait can be credited to a lesson that his father taught him.

In the clip, Mayweahter Jr says, “The first thing my dad taught me. The first day I went in the gym, the less you get hit, the longer you last .”  The application of this lesson can be seen in all of Mayweather Jr’s ring appearances. He moreover added, “So I took that throughout life, and it panned out.”
