The torch bearer of modern-day boxing, Canelo Alvarez, only knew what it takes to be great. The champion was confident of adding another belt to his resume before going head-to-head with WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. He was the heavy favorite. Boxing fans were cheering and applauding the champion’s decision to collide in a weight class that was not naturally fit for him.

But things changed when Canelo could not secure victory. Boxing world dragged the 31-year-old into the witness box and questioned him. Some people branded it as a ‘foolish’ move. Some accused Canelo of playing golf instead of focusing on boxing. Moreover, Canelo lost the no.1 position on the pound-for-pound list.

This upset loss really hurt the Mexican. However, he did not regret locking horns with Bivol. Without bothering himself with fans’ reaction, he accepted the truth and gave sympathy to himself with reasonable thought.

He told ‘Behind The Gloves’, “like I say, I don’t need that fight. I need to try different things right because I’m in the position I can do whatever I want. I tried to be great to challenge myself which other fighters never gonna do.”

After the loss, many were speculating that Canelo will go for a rematch with Bivol but he changed his plan and decided to meet his old rival Gennady Golovkin before testing his skills against Bivol for the second time.

Canelo Alvarez’s upcoming fight

The two contests between Canelo and the IBF and IBO middleweight champion ‘Triple G’ were not able to decide who is the dominant force in the middleweight division. Therefore, to settle all business, the pair have decided to meet a third time under the lights of T-Mobile Arena on September 17.

Golovkin, who is going through the fading days of his career, will challenge WBA, WBC, IBF, IBO, and the Ring Magazine super-middleweight title of Canelo.

Canelo already has a lead on Golovkin as far as head to head is considered, but Golovkin certainly has other ideas. The Kazak boxer believes he won the previous two encounters, as they were very close contests.
