Last weekend, Terence Crawford returned to the ring against Shawn Porter after a year-long hiatus from the sport. In a nutshell, ‘Bud’ Crawford came, he saw and he conquered. He wiped all doubters off the board by forcing Porter’s corner to call off the fight in round 10 and proved to the world why he is truly a top pound-for-pound fighter.

This fight with Shawn Porter was Crawford’s last bout on his Top Rank contract. After the 10-round clash, the Omaha, Nebraska native said it out loud to the press, while sitting right next to Bob Arum, that he has no faith in the Top Rank top dog to set up a mega-fight with the unified champion at 147, Errol Spence Jr. He suggested that he will be moving on from Arum.

Now that he is venturing out into free agency, he might have new opportunities to work with some other top promoters. Among others, Floyd Mayweather could be a top-choice for Terence Crawford as well.

In fact, ‘Money’ Mayweather has been after ‘Bud’ for quite a while now. Almost four years ago, Floyd Mayweather revealed that Crawford is the top p4p fighter in the sport and also suggested that he would love to work with him if he ever becomes a free agent.

“The p4p best fighter in boxing right now is Terence Crawford. To be honest, when I was 14 years old, actually 15 years old, I could’ve turned professional, honestly speaking.

But everything in life is about timing and patience. Terence Crawford, I truly believe, he doesn’t have to be under my company for me to give a guy props, I’m not like that.

“If he’s ever free and if he ever wants to go to any company if he’s a free agent, I would love to work with him, if he’s free because I know what I can do to take him to the next level.

There’s a lot of helluva fighters out there and he’s one of the guys that, he’s a motherf****r. One thing I like about him, he reminds me of a young Floyd Mayweather. He can fight his a** off. I mean, he’s a lot older than I was,” said Floyd Mayweather.

Terence Crawford does not operate like Floyd Mayweather

Terence Crawford appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2019. The UFC commentator initiated the episode by right away asking the top p4p fighter about the Errol Spence Jr. fight.

‘Bud’ claimed and suggested that Spence needs him more than he needs him; he added that his achievements top Spence’s. He then pinned the blame on the back-end “ego” problems at Top Rank.

Joe Rogan then cited the case of Floyd Mayweather. Boxing’s ‘Pretty Boy’ is not just famous for being the best boxer but is also famous for his “insane” wealth. Rogan posited that Floyd’s ability to promote on his own has allowed him to figure out and disrupt the game.

However, Terence Crawford responded by saying that he does not see himself operating like that.

Right, that’s just not my style. Too busy!” he argued.

And, Rogan agreed. Moreover, he even advised Crawford to just “stay busy being Terence Crawford”.

You’re too busy right? You don’t want to be promoting, that seems like a lot of pain in the a** man,” advised Joe Rogan.
