“I Wouldn’t Be Able to Sleep at Night”: David Benavidez Takes a Dig at Jermall Charlo for Getting Smacked by Caleb Plant in Public at Crawford vs Spence Jr Event

Boxing fans and aficionados want Canelo Alvarez to fight David Benavidez and Demetrius Andrade. On November 25, Benavidez and Andrade will battle for a chance to fight Alvarez next year. The fight will happen in Las Vegas at the Michelob ULTRA Arena and will be on Showtime PPV in the U.S. As famous, Benavidez went pro in 2013. He defeated Ronald Gavril in 2017 to win the WBC super middleweight title.

He also beat former champion Caleb Plant in March by unanimous decision. Where talks about Plant-Benavidez rematch are prevalent, recently, ‘The Mexican Monster’ weighed in on his opponent’s infamous incident with Jermall Charlo.

The incident involving a slap between Caleb Plant and Jermall Charlo occurred in Las Vegas at the pre-fight weigh-in for the bout between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford. In the scandalous debacle, ‘Sweethands’ slapped Jermall Charlo, the reigning WBC middleweight champion, in the face. Plant alleges that Charlo instigated the situation by pulling his beard and using insulting language.

Plant later discussed the event on his Instagram Live, saying that despite his warnings, Charlo continued to agitate him by tugging on his beard and touching his face. Feeling the need to protect himself, particularly with his wife in attendance, Plant retaliated.

In a recent interview with Showtime Sports, David Benavidez commented on the situation between Plant and Charlo. He finds it crazy but also funny. According to him, Jermall Charlo needs to redeem himself after the slap. Benavidez says he couldn’t sleep if he got slapped like that. He also mentioned that Plant wants to fight Charlo.

Benavidez said, “I don’t want to get in between whatever they’ve got going on, but it was kind of crazy. I’m not going to lie; it was funny. But he has to go redeem himself. If I got slapped like that, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night. By the way, Plant says he wants Charlo.”

Additionally, in the same interview, David Benavidez also discussed the possibility of a rematch with Caleb Plant.

The undefeated boxer reviewed his fight against Plant in a Showtime Sports interview. He said the fight was entertaining and also claimed that with some changes, he could have won by stoppage. Moreover, he avoided answering questions about a potential rematch with Plant.

We gave the fans a massive fight, a massive event, and a fight for the year books to remember.”
