Shakur Stevenson is one of boxing’s highly rated young fighters. The undefeated puncher has shown his class throughout his unbeaten career. Such is his hype, that even the legendary boxer, Mike Tyson, has lavished praise on Stevenson.

The 23-year-old last fought in December against Toka Kahn Clary. He dismantled his opponent to move ahead in the rankings. He then called for a world title shot. However, ‘Fearless’ has had to settle for another lower-ranked opponent, and Tyson made his feeling clear about Stevenson’s next fight.

The 15-0 boxer joined ‘Iron Mike’ on an episode of ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson’. While the pair watched some footage of Stevenson’s next opponent, Tyson said, “If this guy lays a glove on you, you should retire…That guy couldn’t hit you even if you were blindfolded.”

This comment came as a result of the news that Stevenson would return to the ring on June 12 against Jeremiah Nakathila. Clearly, Tyson feels Nakathila is no match for Stevenson. However, he credited Namibian when he said, “And he’s tough too though. If you come to fight him, he’s tough.”

Who were the other options for Shakur Stevenson?

These comments from ‘Iron Mike’ showed the vast difference in ability between the two fighters. But this was clearly not the fight ‘Fearless’ wanted. The undefeated champion had made no secret of his desire to fight for the belt.

Stevenson first called out Oscar Valdez after the Mexican’s incredible knockout victory over Miguel Berchelt. However, nothing materialized, and Stevenson targeted a bout against Jamel Herring. Despite the rumors, it appears as though it would be too quick a turnaround for Herring.

Therefore, the young superstar has to wait for his chance at the title. However, he can have no worries of derailing his chances when he faces Nakathila. Only time will tell if Stevenson gets the title fight after facing the Namibian.
