The WBC middleweight champ, Jermall Charlo, has taken wild shots at his rival David Benavidez. Last week, Benavidez claimed a magnificent T/KO win over Ronald Ellis and regained the momentum in his boxing stint. That said, this gave Charlo a momentous opportunity to call ‘El Bandera Roja’ out.

Speaking to Brian Custer, Charlo said:

“Yeah, let’s make that fight happen. Imma knock his little punk a** out. I promise that I put that on everything I learned. I give him about four rounds, five rounds, I’ll knock him out. About five rounds, six rounds, no more. He get hit too much.”

“I’m powerful, I’ll explode on him, trust me. I do my thing, I’ve been doing this all my life. Put me in there. Bro, I’m a lion, bro. Let’s get it.”

Following his title defense, Charlo, a stout prodigy at the middleweight division, is curiously looking for an opponent. In his last fight, ‘Hit Man’ hammered Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the full 12-rounds and claimed a comfortable unanimous decision win.

It was his second major title defense, and Charlo truly showcased his exuberant skill sets.

In the above interview, Charlo not just mocked Benavidez, but issued a stern warning and stated that he would knock him out inside 6 rounds. But, Benavidez, a former super-middleweight champion, secured his last win in the super-middleweight landscape.

That said, a fight between him and Charlo doesn’t seem so likely for 2021. However, it can happen if either of the two transitions from their current weight classes to take each other on.

Will Jermall Charlo move up to fight David Benavidez?

‘Hit Man’ looked ferocious with his aforementioned comments on David Benavidez. Unfortunately, as ‘El Bandera Roja’ doesn’t have a belt, Charlo may not feel like moving up for a fight that has nothing in it for him.

Furthermore, Benavidez has his sights set on Canelo Alvarez. If he gets this bout and wins the belt, then a fight between him and Charlo could be plausible.

This matchup between the undefeated pugilists, Charlo and Benavidez, seems extremely enticing as they have legitimate heat and possess every weapon in their bag to crucify the other.

Do you envision this fight happening by any means? If yes, then who will you root for among the two?
