Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone gained worldwide acclaim after the success of his boxing-based blockbuster movie ‘Rocky’. The movie franchise is one of the highest-grossing franchises ever, generating a total revenue of $1.5 billion across all movies. However, this was not always the case as producers were very skeptical of the script and didn’t think it had the potential to be successful.
In addition, Stallone was relatively unknown as an actor before ‘Rocky’, only adding to the risk factor. This led the producers of the film to once offer him hundreds of thousands of dollars to walk away from his creation. Despite this, Stallone refused this offer to continue working on the movie and even detailed what the producers didn’t take into account while making their offer.

Sylvester Stallone declined over $250,000 to walk away from ‘Rocky’
In a past interview with the BBC, Stallone revealed that he was offered large sums of money to walk away. However, for him, a lot of money didn’t matter much as he wanted to try out his acting skills and wanted to see if he could make it as an actor.
“It went up to about $265,000, to stay away get off my lawn boy. But what they didn’t count was, when a person hasn’t had that type of money, they don’t miss it. In other words, if you haven’t ridden in a Rolls Royce, you don’t mind bouncing around in a Volkswagen. You don’t have that frame of reference. But more than that if I knew I sold it even for $500,0000 after the money was gone, I knew I would be very bitter that I sold out because my one love was to at least fail on my own terms.” he said
