In the post-fight press conference, the newly crowned lightweight and super-Featherweight WBA champion revealed that he was worried about Santa Cruz.
Before the press conference started, Davis said, “That was crazy, right? I’m glad he good, I’m glad he got up.” Inevitably, his first question was about him being worried about Leo Santa Cruz.
“Yes, when I hit him, I seen how he was fallin’ and then I turned because I knew he was out. But when I was on the rope and I turned around and seeing he was on the ground, that’s when I went into a different mood. I was like, ‘Damn is he okay?’ So, I’m glad he’s okay.” This shows that Davis was gracious in victory and respected Leo Santa Cruz.

Story of the fight between Gervonta Davis and Leo Santa Cruz
Leo Santa Cruz predicted that he would win a 12-round decision. And things seemed to go to plan. Though the fight was very close, the Mexican was getting the better of ‘Tank’ in the early exchanges. Davis, however, was never out of the fight. We were warned that we would see the best version of ‘Tank’ Davis and we did.

Davis stuck to mostly counter-punching the whole fight, drawing Santa Cruz into trade and then slipping to the left to open up the big shots. He got a few shots off to the body that hurt Santa Cruz.
Santa Cruz also hurt Davis, with Davis’ eye swelling up towards the end of the fifth. Despite this, when you fight a guy like Gervonta Davis, expect the big punch at any time. And that’s exactly what happened, and it was lights out for Santa Cruz. It will be interesting to see Davis’ next move from here.
