WBC and WBA super lightweight champion Jessica McCaskill has fired shots at Cecilia Braekhus. The two were set to face each other on the 17th of April, however, the bout was called off due to the pandemic. Now that boxing is set to return a likely date for the bout is sometime in July. ‘CasKilla’ revealed she’s been preparing hard for the fight with her trainer Rick Ramos. Despite the cancellation being a major blow, Jessica said that she’s been training regularly and is ready to knock out her opponent.
“I can’t wait to show what we’ve been working on”- Jessica McCaskill
“As far as I know, that is still the plan. It could even be as early as July. I got a call from Matchroom saying to be ready and stay ready’. You don’t want to get overlooked for something major like this just because you want to take a vacation. I’ve been in the gym every day for multiple workouts and I can’t wait to show what we’ve been working on”. Said McCaskill as reported by boxingnews24.com
Jessica has the chance to secure the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC, WBO, and The Ring welterweight titles if she beats Braekhus. McCaskill was last seen in action against Erica Farias, winning via majority decision. Jessica’s fight against Braekhus will be her biggest test to date. Cecilia has an undefeated record of (36-0) and has reigned as the welterweight champion since 2014.
Despite the herculean task, McCaskill is confident she can knock out her highly experienced opponent.
“I’m just looking to make history and shock the world as I usually do every time. I’m expecting to knock out Cecilia. I don’t know what round, but this extra time we’ve got to train before the fight is going to make us a lot sharper and a lot stronger and smarter overall” said Jessica as reported boxingnews24.com
The bout is surely set to take place behind closed doors, with a likely date set to be this July.
