Anthony Yarde was left fuming with the judges’ scorecards after his defeat. The Englishman lost a 12-round decision to compatriot Lyndon Arthur. The 29-year-old fighter was distraught with how the fight and did not shy away from showing it.

The two fought a close fight, but neither could get the stoppage or knockout. As a result, it went to the scorecards which went in favor of Arthur.

Lyndon took home the split decision victory with two judges ruling in his favor with a 115-114 score; one judge ruled in favor of Anthony Yarde. In the post-fight interview with BT Sport, Yarde voiced his dismay, saying, “ He caught me with a few jabs. Two right hands [in] the whole fight. I almost knocked him out near the end… I personally and strongly feel that was a robbery”.

 

Yarde showed his unhappiness with the decision. He said, “I’m not taking that as a defeat”.

Scoring is the most controversial thing in the sport and one thing that no one can agree on. So another controversial scoreline isn’t anything new in the sport.

Did Anthony Yarde deserve to win?

As the scorecard revealed, the fight was extremely close and there’s a case to be made that it was a draw too. However, did ‘The Beast’ deserve the victory over ‘King Arthur’? Though Yarde was closing him down and pressing the fight, he was not landing the shots he should have. He also started really slowly and conceded the few early rounds to Arthur.

Arthur on the other hand was patient but kept landing the jab. He out-struck Yarde and made it difficult for him to get his own shots. It was clear that Arthur had the better game-plan as compared to Yarde. Ultimately, that was the defining point in the fight. So, despite the late comeback from Yarde, it was not enough to get him the victory. What did you make of this result?
