This would all change as things started to turn sour between the couple, with Turner eventually divorcing Iron Mike in 2003. During this time, the former heavyweight champion was under the influence of various substances and anti-depressant drugs trying to ease his mental health. Moreover, Tyson was in a very fragile state during this time as he often got into confrontations with journalists, even threatening to harm them.

A perfect example of this would be Tyson delivering one of the harshest lines in 2001, when he told reporters that there was only one thing preventing him from killing them. He stated that he was on Zoloft, a popular anti-depressant, was the only thing preventing him from getting his hands on reporters. “I’m on the Zoloft to keep me from killing y’all.” he said.

Mike Tyson reveals he found peace in psychotropic drugs

Tyson’s history of drug abuse has been well documented. However, according to him, psychedelic drugs were responsible for saving his life. The former heavyweight champion claimed that all his negative thoughts and views changed after he started taking psilocybin mushrooms and other similar consciousness-altering substances.” Everyone thought I was crazy. I bit this guy’s ear off. I did all this stuff, and once I got introduced to the shrooms … my whole life changed.” He said.

Moreover, he stood by this alternative medicine and claimed that it helped him turn his whole life around. “Isn’t life a trip, man? It’s amazing medicine, and people don’t look at it from that perspective,” he added. Although these substances have long been used by humans to alter rates of consciousness, there is not a lot of medical evidence backing it up. However, as research into these substances gets better, a host of benefits of these substances has been discovered.
