Boxing icons like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and others have often made their way onto the silver screen through biopics. Actors have tried to portray these icons as well as they could, and this time, it was Sydney Sweeney’s turn. The 28-year-old portrayed the former WBC champion Christy Martin in the movie titled ‘Christy’, which has created an itch in her to get inside the boxing ring.

When it comes to female actors, only Kali Reis stands out as a boxer who later jumped into an acting career. But no actor has come to boxing and competed in a real fight, although there have been quite a few who underwent proper boxing training. Sydney Sweeney could be the first actress to compete in a boxing ring because she’s open to doing it for charity.

Sydney Sweeney wants a real boxing match
It wasn’t until the filming of ‘Christy’ started that the boxing bug got to Sydney Sweeney. The 28-year-old expressed that putting the gloves on and being in the moment made all the difference. In an interview with Sportscasting, Sweeney said, “There was a moment in the middle of filming where I was like, ‘Should I give it all up and fight because I love this?'”
In case you’re thinking this is not happening? Well, think again! That’s because Christy Martin believes that Sydney Sweeney is capable enough to handle herself inside the squared circle, and the ‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’ star is willing to do that, but for a good cause. In fact, Sweeney also revealed that she has a few opponents up for consideration, but people will have to wait for that.
“Christy said she’d sign me up. So, this isn’t as hypothetical as you actually think it is. Yeah, I’d totally do a charity bout. That’d be so sick,” Sydney Sweeney added. “It’s a surprise, you’ll have to wait, I’m serious. You gotta stay tuned for the pay-per-view, and you’ll see it. I have some names that we can’t throw out yet.”

Well, Sydney Sweeney really put it all on the line to portray Christy Martin. She even underwent a physical transformation that saw her gain weight so that her look was on point with the first-ever female boxer to be inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame.

Sweeney gained 35 lbs for ‘Christy’
Actors often take themselves through a massive physical transformation to portray the role they’re given to their absolute best. This is apparent in the superhero movie business and sports biopics. We recently saw Dwayne Johnson making his transformation for ‘The Smashing Machine’. Now, Sydney Sweeney has revealed that she also underwent a transformation that involved her gaining as much as 35 lbs, which was very demanding.
“I was so engrossed in training and physically preparing for this role, I was working out every single day [and] I was boxing every single day,” Sweeney told Collider. “I put on 35 pounds for this. So mentally, I’d been preparing for two or three months leading up to it, and I was so excited and ready to get on that set.”

Well, she showed her magic in the movie and received fairly great reviews from critics. Now, when it comes to competing in a real boxing match, Sydney Sweeney might just do it. During an appearance on Good Morning America, the actor revealed that she “grew up kickboxing and grappling.” So, don’t be surprised if you see the Euphoria star trading leather in the ring in the future.
