Haney won the WBC interim lightweight belt by beating Zaur Abdullaev. Post that, he was all set to lock horns with the then WBC champ, Vasyl Lomachenko. However, the Ukrainian boxer and his team requested the WBC to promote him as the newly formed ‘Franchise Champion’.

Haney then got promoted as the WBC lightweight champ. He even defended this strap against Alfredo Santiago. Later, the WBC ordered him to face Javier Fortuna. Unfortunately, due to an injury, Haney had to withdraw from the contest. Hence, he was made the ‘champion in recess’.

Later, the WBC aligned Luke Campbell and Javier Fortuna for the vacant WBC lightweight title, with Haney fighting the winner. But, Covid-19 poured cold water on this matchup. As a result, the WBC again promoted ‘The Dream’ as the ultimate champion via an email.

Devin Haney titles: How many belts has he won?

In 2019, Haney won the WBC interim lightweight title. Post that, he got promoted as the WBC lightweight champ, and until now, he has retained that belt.
