Everything appeared to be on track for WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, but fate seems to have other plans. Just two weeks before his scheduled exhibition bout against Jake Paul, ‘Tank’ once again finds himself entangled in fresh legal trouble. A few months back, police took the boxing star into custody in Miami Beach after his ex-girlfriend filed a lawsuit accusing him of domestic battery. Eventually, prosecutors dropped those charges in August, but now another woman has filed a new lawsuit against Davis in Miami-Dade County.

What legal trouble is Gervonta Davis facing, and is he in custody?

The woman accusing Gervonta Davis of attacking her has identified herself as his ex-girlfriend, Rosell, according to court documents filed on October 30. In the filing, Rosell accused the boxer of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The documents show that the lawsuit is civil in nature, with Rosell “seeking actual damages” for the listed allegations. The incident allegedly occurred on October 27 at Tootsie Cabaret, where the plaintiff works as a VIP cocktail waitress.

The civil lawsuit is currently with the 11th Judicial Circuit Court. Rosell states that Gervonta Davis “ch-ked, grabbed, pulled, and pushed her in the back of the head” during the incident. The lawsuit also alleges that ‘Tank’ assaulted her on at least four prior occasions and threatened to k-ll her twice in the past.

Rosell’s lawyer, Richard C. Wolfe, confirmed that his client is undergoing therapy for PTSD, anxiety, and fear, stating that she no longer feels safe living alone. The court documents also highlight Gervonta Davis’s previous legal troubles, which have created challenges in the past. On the other hand, Davis’s trainer dismissed the allegations as “nonsense,” leaving boxing fans uncertain about the situation.

Is the fight between Gervonta and Jake Paul still happening?

That question continues to dominate discussions in the boxing world as Davis’s trainer, Calvin Ford, downplays the ongoing legal drama. Ford emphasized that Gervonta Davis is not in custody and described the civil suit as purely civil, drawing a parallel to last year’s situation with Conor McGregor and Nikita Hand. Speaking about the upcoming bout, Ford confirmed that the Jake Paul vs. Davis fight is proceeding, adding, “He’s doing great. Everything’s good. That’s why we’re trying to find out what’s going on.”

Davis, who owns a home in Florida, has been training there in preparation for the fight. The bout against Jake Paul carries significant weight for ‘Tank’, as the perceived mismatch has already drawn attention, and the latest civil suit has only intensified the spotlight. Gervonta Davis last competed in March against Lamont Roach Jr., a bout that ended in a draw.

Now, as he looks to close out his career, he hinted earlier last year, “It’s over with after this year.” Tank plans to retire at the end of 2025, with the Jake Paul fight offering a chance for a lucrative payday. With the latest lawsuit still unfolding, we will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
