Why is Mike Tyson banned from Australia?

Police officials arrested and imprisoned Mike Tyson in 1992 with rape charges. The conviction gave him six-year-long imprisonment. But officials set Tyson free in 1995. Six years later, the Immigration Minister of Australia (then) Philip Ruddock claimed Tyson had failed the character test under the Migration Act 1958. Henceforth, he suggested the cabinet prohibit Tyson from getting a visa in Australia.

The cabinet agreed because Tyson was already carrying a criminal record. Well, Australia is known for scrutinizing its visitors. They also offered a harsh approach to US rapper Eminem’s entry into their country. But with Mike Tyson, it was a clear rejection from the Howard government.

Did Mike Tyson ever visit Australia?

Per reports, the Australian government granted Tyson a six-day visa in 2012 when Julia Gillard took over as the Prime Minister of Australia. Tyson eventually visited the country and spent his time. However, he was revoked from visiting the neighboring land in New Zealand for his criminal charges. Although Tyson may seem to have a lot of fans over there, boxing veteran cannot really visit their country.
