It seems like the Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney confrontation is back on the map. It was Garcia who had earlier pulled out of the almost fixed fight. However, it is he who has now come out again seeking it. Amidst this back-and-forth, a former opponent of Haney, George Kambosos Jr. has outlined why he thinks Garcia is a confused fighter.

Right before 2023 ended, it was certain that the two-division champion, Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia, would indeed face off against each other. Just a few days later, ‘KingRy’ muzzled those plans and went with Rolando Romero as his next opponent. That fight collapsed too. Garcia’s feuding promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, remarked that ‘Rolly’ priced himself out of the fight. The promoter then sought Jose Ramirez as his next opponent. That also was unacceptable to the fighter. After maxing out most options that were available to him, Ryan Garcia is now back to square one, ready for talks with Haney. This perplexing tango of opponents has now invited rebuke from the former lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr.

Kambosos Jr. asserted that he’s hardly had any time to think about Garcia vs. Haney as he prepares for his own May fight against Vasyl Lomachenko. But his experience from fighting Devin Haney twice allows him to interpolate despite not following the news. Haney defeated the Aussie fighter in both their 2022 fights to become the undisputed lightweight champion.

“If they do fight, its a awesome fight for boxing. I know Devin loves the big fights, the challenges, um I think Devin gets the job done, gets the job done in spectacular fashion,” noted Kambosos. However, the pendulum-like decision-making that KingRy has embarked on lately makes Kambosos think that the young fighter is slightly confused.

He added, “Ryan is a good kid. I like Ryan, a lot of respect for Ryan. I feel that he’s just a little bit confused, and that’s not taking a shot at him being disrespectful. Sometimes, you know, I don’t know, he’s got a lot of followers, and a lot of you know big hype about him. Sometimes, he gets confused with things and doesn’t know what way to go and that’s on him.”

His remarks come in the light of Eddie Hearn, Haney’s promoter, also confirming that Garcia has reached out to him to make the fight happen. While no official confirmation of the fight and its details have emerged, it seems like it’ll be an April fight after all.

April 20th!

Jake Donovan of Boxing Scene reported that Garcia and his promoter, Golden Boy, had reserved April 20th DAZN pay-per-view for his next fight. Furthermore, earlier today, ‘The Dream’ Haney hinted at being ready to fight on the same day. In an X post, he simply remarked, “April 20th..”
