Gervonta Davis and Naoya Inoue are two of the rising stars in the sport. Both combatants are coming off the biggest wins in their careers. “Tank,” finally fought Ryan Garcia and defeated him in spectacular fashion. Meanwhile, Inoue was considered a promising prospect for a substantial period of time. After his bout against Stephen Fulton last month, ‘The Monster,’ solidified himself as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters.

Why can’t Bob Arum foresee Gervonta Davis vs Naoya Inoue fight happening?
Arum is a veteran promoter and is the CEO of, ‘Top Rank,’ promotions. In an interview with Fight Hub TV, the promoter was asked to weigh in on the fantasy match-up between Davis and Inoue. The 91-year-old did not shy away from making his disbelief in this match-up evident. His lack of conviction for this matchup ever happening stems from the weight disparity between the two. Inoue competes in the super bantamweight division and Davis competes in the lightweight division which is multiple weight categories apart.
Reflecting upon it, he stated, “He is a tremendous star in Japan. Virtually nobody in Japan knows who Tank Davis is. And would we now, who is undersized who is 122 fight at someone who is at junior welterweight at 140lbs. It absolutely makes no sense. No sense.”

Arum on Davis wanting to face Inoue
In the same interview, the interviewer expressed that Davis, despite the weight disparity welcomes a fight with Inoue. However, Arum finds it problematic considering the Japanese boxer has to ascend in weight classes.
He stated, “It’s not good for Inoue to rush up and fight guys who are so much bigger than he is. I don’t care about the stature of Tank. That’s why they call him Tank. He is a bigger person.”
