Boxing rings are no strangers to heavy hits, but when the blows come from a corner not ordinarily associated with such strikes, they take on a whole new level of shock. Chris Eubank Sr, boxing royalty and father to Chris Eubank Jr, took to the airwaves on talkSPORT recently, delivering a series of verbal jabs that appeared to strike as hard as any physical blow.

A candid conversation served as the battleground, where the elder Eubank exchanged his renowned gloves for words, painting a startling picture of his fractured relationship with his son. Yet, in an intriguing twist, it wasn’t his son’s defeat to Liam Smith that seemed to concern Eubank Sr most. The real issue ran far deeper, presenting a father-son rift that reveals much about the behind-the-scenes drama of professional boxing.

Chris Eubank Sr’s views on his son’s performance

In an exceptionally candid conversation, Chris Eubank Sr had a lot to say about his son’s career and his recent performance in the boxing ring. Reflecting on his son’s defeat against Liam Smith, Eubank Sr didn’t mince his words, declaring it a result of his son’s arrogance and refusal to listen.

Yet, it seems the elder Eubank was as concerned about the entourage surrounding his son as he was about the recent loss. He highlighted a conversation with former heavyweight champion David Haye, who recently joined Eubank Jr’s team. According to Eubank Sr, Haye claimed that Eubank Jr doesn’t spar, does what he wants, and surrounds himself with ‘yes men’. The elder Eubank lamented, “And so it seems to me, by what David Haye tells me that he’s still not listening.”

Eubank Sr’s critique didn’t stop there. He emphasized his role in his son’s success, saying that his son couldn’t have made the money he made without him. He added,” There were three fights he had and this will actually shock a lot of these fighters because I have a feeling of what they’re being paid.” He went on to express disappointment about his son’s current team led by Roy Jones Jr and labeled the situation a ‘disgrace‘.
