Roy Jones Jr. belongs to the ‘old school’ generation of boxing, that many believe to be part of the golden era of the sport. There is no doubt he posses some unique features of his time. While he will also be a part of modern-day boxing soon with a much-awaited return, Roy Jones Jr has a specific take on the new generation of the sport.

That said, he doesn’t mind seeing numerous belts on the active roster. ‘Captain Hook’ will face Mike Tyson on November 28 in an exhibition fight. The WBC has organized a special frontline belt for the event; however, modern-day great, Floyd Mayweather might not like the idea.

A few days back in a press-meet, Mayweather has disapproved of having so many belts in boxing. The undefeated boxer claimed that it’s harmful to the sport since everyone has a belt right now. Despite that, Roy Jones Jr. and Mike Tyson are happy to face-off for a belt and they have recently passed their opinion on the entire scenario.

Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. rules out Floyd Mayweather’s statement

In the recent press conference of their fight, ‘Iron’ Mike and ‘Captain Hook’ Jones have shared their views and ignored Mayweather’s claims.

Roy Jones Jr said, “First of all, I don’t give a damn what nobody says. Don’t got nothing to do with me. I do what I do, my business is my business. I don’t care what nobody else says. This ain’t got nothing to do with him. So he stays over there in his lane, do what he do, let me do what I do.”

He added, “Secondly, when I was fighting, I wasn’t like them. I went and got every belt possible that I could get in my weight class at the time. Mike did the same thing. We come from the old school. We want every belt you got. I don’t care what kind of belt it is. It could be the Joe Patti Seafood belt, I want that. I don’t care. If you have a belt in my weight class, in my prime, I wanted that. So you think right now, you want to see me perform you put a belt on the line.”

At 51, Roy Jones is still hungry for a fight because there’s a title at stake. Hence, it is no surprise that he calls it an addiction.
