Ryan Garcia can’t catch a break! Following his performance-enhancing drug debacle in the fight against Devin Haney, Garcia’s mother, Lisa M Garcia, seems to have been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 25-year-old initially revealed the update about his mother on social media a while back, but fans didn’t believe him because of his antics previously.  

However, earlier today, Lisa herself hopped on her Instagram account to confirm the diagnosis while letting her fans know she will fight the disease. In the meantime, on June 5, Ryan Garcia went live on X while on a car ride with his mother. As Lisa drove while speaking to someone on the phone, Ryan’s impromptu live stream, capturing her dialogue, appeared to have irked her!

After Garcia went live on X yesterday, his mother can be heard in the video talking on the phone describing her cancer diagnosis, oblivious to Garcia’s actions. As the session proceeded, Garcia can be seen telling his mother about being live on the social media platform! To this, Lisa responded by saying, “It’s not funny, Ryan”.

Ryan Garcia has been especially active on social media since Lisa’s diagnosis, originally releasing a clip of himself breaking down about the news, which had led to people refusing to believe Lisa’s diagnosis. Before going live, Garcia had tweeted, “Breast cancer is stupid”, today the Victorville native even wrote, “Hanging on a thread but the thread is broken”.

More details about Lisa’s diagnosis haven’t made it on the internet yet, but an Oscar nominated actress has expressed her sorrow about the situation.

Having revealed the update about his mother on X previously, the Victorville native asked his fans to pray for his mother’s wellbeing in a now-deleted tweet! So, 1994 Academy Award nominee Rosie Perez, who can be often found tweeting about the latest bouts, fulfilled Garcia’s wish by writing back a short but heartfelt message. 

She wrote, “Nooo! I’m so sorry to hear this! Prayers!!” While all this is happening, Ryan Garcia’s trial in front of the New York Sport Athletic Commission for the positive doping test is still due. The result of his hearing will dictate where Garcia’s career in boxing would be heading! If proven guilty, heavy fines and a long suspension are inevitable!
