‘It Was Hell’: Andy Ruiz Jr. Recounts The Most Painful Days Of His Life

Andy Ruiz Jr, the former Heavyweight Champion, shot to stardom after pulling off one of the greatest upsets in sport’s history. Ruiz Jr stunned the world by becoming champion, ending Anthony Joshua’s perfect record. The Mexican boxer recently revealed something about his dark past.

While talking to FightHype.com, the 32-year-old said, “A day before that I was gonna fight him, he (Al Haymon) was telling me, Andy this is your time, this is your moment, go chase it. Your dreams are gonna come true. It’s like he knew you know.”

He further added, “We only get one chance and I showed up and I showed out. And thank God that I got that victory, but it was in hell man when I was at Top Rank, it was hell. He got me out of there, ever since he got me out of there my whole professional career started changing.”

The boxer also mentioned him being happy to work with PBC. “We’re happier because PBC (Premier Boxing Champions) pays what you deserve, you know what I mean. Let me say this again: PBC pays what you deserve.”

The pugilist had announced a fight with a former kickboxer, Tyron Spong, on July 16 in his native country, Mexico. Fans were taken aback because he had to fulfill a deal to battle the Cuban fighter, Luis Ortiz.

The fighter became the first heavyweight champion of Mexican heritage when he floored Anthony Joshua with a seventh-round knockout. Even though AJ reclaimed his titles six months later, Andy Ruiz Jr. had become a household figure in the industry.

After the news of Ruiz fighting Ortiz, ‘Triller’ Fight Club president, David Tetreault, told ESPN, “We are working amicably with PBC to make sure Ruiz honors his obligations to both parties. Had we known PBC intended to fight him prior, we would have never chosen this date.”

Moreover, he said, “We enjoy a good relationship with PBC and we are currently working to identify an optimal date for rescheduling the fight. The date Triller lands on will be in collaboration with PBC and their calendar.”
