WBC silver super-welterweight champion Erickson Lubin has come a long way since his defeat to Jermell Charlo in 2017. Registering an unstoppable run of five wins from that point, ‘The Hammer’ is one of the most looming welterweights in the boxing universe.
That said, a rematch between him and Charlo has been touted for a long time. Jermell Charlo recently became the new unified welterweight champion, and the rematch makes more sense now.

However, the outcome can still be the same. ‘Iron Man’ Charlo has become even more dangerous, who can shut down his rivals at any given point. Yet Erickson Lubin is not buying that as he vows to outline a different result in the rematch.
Erickson Lubin is ready to destroy Jermell Charlo
In the first fight, it was a one-sided showdown as Jermell Charlo knocked out Lubin in the very first round. It was Lubin’s first and only loss pro-career loss to date. However, he has grandly risen back to prominence and has chalked out some plans for the future.
Speaking with Brian Custer, Lubin said that he is getting stronger and smarter, which can benefit him in the rematch. The loss still stings, but ‘The Hammer’ has picked some important lessons from the loss.
Lubin said, “It was just a bad habit of dipping out the wrong way, and I had my hands down pretty much and he was able to land. I thought he was shooting to the body, and I kinda dipped into the shot, but it was just a minor mistake that you learn through experience and it taught me more inside and outside the ring.”
Meanwhile, he is also confident about the rematch. He added, “I’m with Kevin Cunningham and I’m a southpaw too, I’m growing too. I’m 25 years old, I’m stronger, I’m wiser, I’m smarter, so it will be one of those fights. If we both level up, we going to put it to the test.”
However, Charlo would have to share a similar agreement for its fruition. Since he has already become the unified champion, he might want to test himself against new challengers.
Despite that, if Lubin continues his climb, there’s no way the rematch isn’t happening. It would not only be an important fight for the division but also for both contenders.
