“It Was Weird”: Aussie Boxing Star Skye Nicolson Opens Up on Why Ed Sheeran Was Looking For Her Locker Room at the Katie Taylor Event in Ireland

Boxers are known to earn the admiration of famous celebrities through their extraordinary performances inside the squared ring. In a similar turn of events, the recently crowned Skye Nicolson has impressed Ed Sheeran. The unbeaten featherweight recently went toe-to-toe with Lucy Wildheart at Katie Taylor’s event at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland, winning the fight via a ninth-round stoppage. Her dominant victory over Wildheart drew Sheeran’s attention, convincing him to look for Nicolson’s locker room.

Notably, Nicolson is one of the mandatory challengers who are supposed to face the seven-division titlist, Amanda Serrano. What’s more, female boxing star Ebanie Bridges recently backed Nicolson for defeating Serrano if the fight happens. However, that’s not the reason the Aussie boxing star is making the headlines today! While appearing in a recent interview with MMA Fighting on SBN, Nicolson revealed why Ed Sheeran was looking for her locker room.

When Ariel Helwani questioned the Southpaw boxer about Ed Shareen looking for her locker room, Nicolson revealed that her fight was the first live boxing event Shareen attended. “Yeah, so I was the first ever boxing fight he’s ever watched live. Got there early, right on 7 pm, to watch the Aussie bird, I was told,” said Nicolson.

She went on to suggest that they spoke about where Nicolson was from and where she was training. “He came and had a little chat backstage after the fight…He asked me where in Australia I was from…I said Brisbane…he was a fan of Brisbane, so that was cool. We talked about where I’m training in England – a little suburb called Bromley, and it’s actually where his dad’s from,” said Nicolson. 

In addition, the Australian boxing star claimed that Ed Sheeran was excited about watching the Katie Taylor fight as well. However, she also asserted that the encounter felt a little weird. “He was just really excited…loving the show and was excited for Katie Taylor, obviously…it was a really cool, casual nice guy. It was weird,” said Nicolson.

Nicolson calls out undisputed champion after win

After defeating Lucy Wildheart on 25 December, Nicolson decided to call out the undisputed featherweight champion, Amanda Serrano. Recently, the boxing world has been buzzing with the potential of these two female boxers squaring off. While appearing in a recent interview with Boxing Social, Nicolson made her intentions known.

“I mean, the ball’s going to be 100% in her court. I want that fight. I hope she wants that fight,” said Nicolson. She also hoped that she was able to prove her worthiness to face Serrano while praising the undisputed queen. “She’s one of the top pound-for-pound women in boxing. She’s a Trailblazer for women’s boxing, and it’ll be an honor to fight her,” said Nicolson.
