Former rival Callum Smith, who tasted defeat at the hands of Canelo, believes that Bivol has an “underrated boxing ability,” and can cause an upset on May 7th. Smith goes on to share his thoughts on how the main event will pan out. He predicts, “It won’t be easy for Canelo. I think Canelo wins, but you know it won’t be easy. I think he wins on points and they are going to be pretty close.”

What happened when Callum Smith took on Canelo?

Smith’s comments hold some weight as he has been through what Bivol is about to go through. The 32-year-old faced Canelo in December 2020. However, things didn’t exactly go the British boxer’s way as he succumbed to the Mexican’s pressure.

Canelo went on to deliver a masterclass on boxing as he defeated Smith via a decision to become the unified super middleweight champion. Hence, Smith knows what he’s talking about.
