Anthony Joshua has no plans of parting ways with his promoter Eddie Hearn. The Watford born pugilist dismissed a fan question that asked if he has any plans of “ditching” Eddie.

Joshua was chatting with JD Sports on Instagram Live. Fan questions and comments were also brought in the conversation. The host introduced a fan question to AJ that said, “Would you ditch Eddie Hearn?”. The commentator also reminded the heavyweight kingpin that Hearn might be watching the broadcast live right now.

Even if the Matchroom promoter was viewing the show live, he would have been on cloud nine with Joshua’s response.

“Well for me personally I wouldn’t ditch, but I’m quite a loyal character. So the people that have been with me from the start I tend to keep around me.”

Joshua remembered the time when people asked him to change his trainer Rob McCracken after his defeat against Andy Ruiz Jr last year. However, AJ silenced everyone after he regained his belts from Ruiz Jr by defeating him in December.

“We evolved our team for the Ruiz II fight, I didn’t just ditch Rob [McCracken].”

It’s kind that mindset, that the people who’ve brought you along, as soon as you get somewhere it’s like, ‘Oh forget them, I wanna see if the grass is greener.”

Anthony Joshua signed a three-year extension with Matchroom Boxing in 2018

Just like his trainer Rob, Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn have been with Joshua since the onset of his professional career. Before his title defence against Alexander Povetkin in Sept. 2018, the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO title holder decided to extend his partnership with the promotion.

It has been eighteen months since the resigning and the champ is showing no signs of dissatisfaction. So much that he feels it would be “silly” to leave Hearn. AJ and Matchroom Boxing have one thing in common. They are both family-oriented. And that plays a big role in Joshua’s decision to stick with them.

So I and Eddie will always have a great friendship most importantly, that’s why I kind of looked at partnering with Matchroom. Because they’re a family-run business and I’m a family man, so we have a friendship and we have something in common there.”
