Boxing legend Mike Tyson was never loved like he is today during his childhood. The former heavyweight champion’s childhood was filled with poverty which led ‘Iron Mike’ to resort to crimes to sustain himself and have a half-decent life. However, this would end up making Tyson hated by his community, who were not too kind to him for stealing and committing crimes.

Moreover, there was an incident where two men tried to threaten him by putting a gun on his groin if Tyson didn’t accept their demands. Despite this, the former champion had a loving sister who tried to defend him from evil men trying to do him harm. Tyson even detailed an incident where her sister brutally dismissed two men looking for him after he was sent to a juvenile detention center.

On the 39th page of his book Undisputed Truth, Tyson revealed that he was arrested for possession of a stolen property when he was 13. However, he was sent to a facility upstate as the facilities in New York were full at the time. He added that his mother was happy to see him leave but had to deal with a lot of men searching for him at his home.

“A few months before I turned thirteen, I got arrested again for possession of the stolen property. They had exhausted all the places in the
New York City vicinity to keep me. I don’t know what kind of scientific diagnostic tests they used, but they decided to send me to the Tryon School for Boys, an upstate New York facility for juvenile offenders about an hour northwest of Albany. My mother was happy that I was going upstate. By then, a lot of grown men had started coming to the house looking for me.” said Tyson

Despite the threat of strange grown men looking for ‘Iron Mike’, his sister was savvy enough to shut down the men looking for her brother. Moreover, he even revealed how the men actually wanted to kill him for the crimes he had committed.

In the next paragraph, Tyson revealed that the men who came to his house threatened to kill him. However, his sister shut them down with a brutal reply giving context to the reality of the situation. Despite this, Tyson still couldn’t fathom why people wanted to kill him when he was just a child.

“Your brother is a dirty motherf*cker. I’m going to kill your brother,” they’d tell my sister. “He’s just a kid,” she’d say. “It’s not like he took your wife or something.” Imagine that, grown men coming to your house looking for you, and you’re twelve years old. Ain’t that some sh*t? Can you blame my mother for giving up all hope for me?” he added.

Despite all the hardships he faced, Tyson was able to overcome this self destructive lifestyle. Not only that, but he was able to exceed all the expectations that people had of him and become one of the best boxers to ever step foot inside the square circle.
