Throwback to December of 2015, two undefeated boxers: Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte had a clash inside the squared circle. The British public was heavily invested in the bout between two British heavyweight boxers. Not to mention, the boxing fraternity, around the globe, took notice of this fight. The stakes were high; The WBC and the BBBoC British heavyweight titles were on the line and Joshua was the one who emerged victorious. He was declared the victor after defeating Whyte in the seventh round of their contest via a stoppage.

Almost 8 years later, their fate demands them to meet again on August 12 at the O2 arena. This revelation startled many in the boxing world as Joshua was speculated to face Deontay Wilder next. Now, their fight will possibly take place in December only if AJ manages to beat Dillian Whyte. Meanwhile, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn made a jaw-dropping claim about the ticket sales ahead of Joshua vs Whyte.

Joshua and Whyte are one of the biggest names in the heavyweight division. Not to mention, since their first professional bout, Joshua has been defeated three times. Their styles and their past rivalry add fuel to the fire and many consider this fight to be a spectacle for British boxing, including Hearn. In an interview with DAZN boxing, after their press conference, Hearn stated, “Yea, I think this is what British boxing needs. This is what DAZN needs. I think this is what AJ needs, this is what Dylan Whyte needs. It’s just a huge British boxing event.”
While reflecting on the ticket sales, he stated, “People talk about is it the ring fight, it’s massive. I mean we got  less than 100 tickets, we went for sale three hours ago. It’s going to be a complete roadblock in O2.” It is safe to say that the bout will be a blockbuster event and that the boxing world is excited to witness the two combatants. Apart from that, the stakes are high for Joshua as he is taking a big risk by fighting Whyte.

 What is at stake for Anthony Joshua in his upcoming bout?

Joshua was in talks to face Wilder in December in Saudi Arabia. However, if Joshua loses to Whyte, he would jeopardize his fight with Wilder in Saudi. Hearn confirmed the same couple of days ago and stated, “No. We’ve been told categorically that the deal on the table is not the deal if he loses to Whyte.”
