“I’ve Been a Pescatarian for Over a Year Now” – Claressa Shields

Claressa Shields is fast becoming one of the most notable female pugilists in the world. The super-welterweight has held multiple world titles at different weight classes. The two-time Olympic gold medalist holds the record for the fastest to become a two and three-weight world champion, in terms of professional fights. The superstar boxer took to Instagram to share her diet secret and goals.

In the post, Claressa showed followers a picture of her meal prep which features some fried rice, vegan chicken, and a glass of water. The post was accompanied by the caption, “Vegetable fried rice & vegan chick’n. With a nice cup of water. A lot of people ask what do I eat and I’m a pescatarian, meaning only meat I eat is fish”.

It is common for professional athletes to stick to a particular diet which enables them to perform at the level required. Many fighters use different dietary methods to help them compete at an optimal level.

Shields adds that she has been following this diet for more than a year. She wrote, “I’ve been pescatarian for over a year now.”  Her dedication away from the ring with things like this shows why the talented 25-year-old has a perfect boxing record of 10 fights, 10 wins.

In the post, she also shared her goals regarding the diet. She added, “My goal for water intake is at least one gallon a day”.

This lets her fans see the value of hydration in her diet. Her regimen is all to prepare for her next fight against undefeated Marie-Eve Dicaire.  The fight was initially scheduled for May 9 but has been postponed. There has been no new date set, and it remains to be seen when Claressa Shields will fight again. However, there are rumors of a super-fight against UFC star Amanda Nunes as well.

Either way, boxing enthusiasts can tell that preparation is underway both in and out of the gym. It is also good for fight fans when fighters share such information. It gives them a better idea of how their stars can perform at the level that they do. Furthermore, it also helps inspire younger boxers, especially female boxers, to take up the sport professionally.
