In his vast boxing stint, Floyd Mayweather made enough friends who he still treats as family. But the undefeated icon of the sport had countless rivals too, both inside the ring and outside. However, one of his rivalries that stirred the fight universe in the early 2000s was a feud with James Prince aka J. Prince.

J. Prince is widely known as the biggest music executive and the founder of Rap A Lot Records. Back in 1999, Floyd Mayweather, who was a big fan of his record labels, approached him.

Later, the duo joined hands, and Prince began working for the rising boxing sensation as his manager.

Many believed that Mayweather and Prince had the perfect partnership and they would trace a long pathway together. However, things didn’t go well between the two.

Mayweather’s contact with J. Prince was about to conclude somewhere in 2003. And ‘TBE’s the then promoter, Bob Arum, was looking to align Mayweather for a fight.

Arum ended up paying a whopping $600,000 to Prince on Mayweather’s behalf in the end. But what exactly happened between Mayweather and Prince?

Arum, in a conversation with Dan LeBatard and Bomani Jones, addressed the situation. He said, “Floyd apparently had asked us not to do a fight in October but to do it in December after James Prince’s contract with him had run out.”

“The disturbance in my gym was that some people came over, with or without the knowledge of James Prince, and proceeded to break a couple of heads of people in Mayweather’s camp with baseball bats. So the gym was splattered with blood.” (h/t Complex)

As a result, at Mayweather’s request, Arum paid Prince the above-mentioned amount.

In an interaction with ESPN, Prince shed some light on his relationship with Floyd Mayweather. He said, “Me and Floyd is cool right now. We’re cool. We communicate. We have a mutual respect.”

“We’re both at a peaceful spot in our lives,” he added.

Although things turned wild between the two a couple of decades back, they seem to be on good terms now, forgetting all that happened in the past.
