The Heavyweight division in boxing has always been revered as the pinnacle of the sport, commanding attention and excitement like no other. Legends such as Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and Lennox Lewis left a huge mark on the division’s history. However, recent events have revealed a concerning trend of inactivity and missed opportunities among the current crop of Heavyweight fighters.

In the world of boxing, big fights between top-tier Heavyweights have the power to capture the imagination of fans. The anticipation surrounding matchups like Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua or Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk has reached a fever pitch. Unfortunately, these long-awaited showdowns have continuously eluded us, leaving many frustrated and questioning the current state of the Heavyweight division. Jake Paul urges the top heavyweight boxers to fight each other

In a recent interview with Talk Sport, Paul expressed his frustration with the current state of the Heavyweight divisions in boxing. The 26-year-old began by highlighting the stark contrast between the Heavyweight division and the lighter divisions, which have been making waves with exciting matchups such as Errol Spence versus Terence Crawford and Ryan Garcia vs Gervonta Davis. While the lower divisions have been stepping up and delivering the fights fans want to see, the same cannot be said for the Heavyweights.

“For me, the heavyweight division is in shambles. Like the heavyweight division right now, it’s the only division that’s not stepping up to the plate and making the big fights happen. The lightweight division is doing it, obviously, with Errol Spence versus Terence Crawford.” he said

Moreover, he pointed out the absence of highly anticipated bouts that fans have been eagerly awaiting. These matchups, with their potential to redefine the Heavyweight landscape, have failed to materialize, leaving fans disappointed and puzzled.

Paul reveals the fights he wants to see next

Later in the interview, Paul issued a call to action where he urged fighters like Fury, Joshua, Usyk, and others to cease avoiding each other and start delivering the fights fans crave. In addition, he emphasized that the essence of boxing lies in the willingness to step into the ring and revealed the fights he wanted to see get booked.

“For some reason, in the heavyweight division, we’re not getting the Tyson Fury vs Joshua fight. We’re not getting the Fury versus Usyk fight. We’re not getting the Joshua vs Wilder fight, we’re not getting Wilder vs Ruiz fight. Like, what are these guys doing? Guys, come on, make this stuff happen, and let’s make the sport a better place. You guys don’t get paid to spar, you get paid to fight. So get in there and stop ducking each other.” he added

The interview provided a platform for Paul to air his grievances and call upon the Heavyweight elite to stop ducking each other. By doing so, he hopes to motivate them to seize the opportunity and elevate the sport to greater heights. Only time will tell how the Heavyweight fighters will respond to this plea. Will they finally prioritize the fights that fans have been clamoring for? Or will they continue to navigate the complex landscape of negotiations?
